Dans un vieux théâtre, une troupe de jeunes comédiens répète une pièce musicale tirée d'un fait divers : une série de meurtres perpétrés par un maniaque, Irwing Wallace. Quand celui-ci s'échappe de l'hopital, se rend au théâtre et tue tous les acteurs sauf Alice qui réussit à s'échapper en allumant un incendie. Wallace semble avoir péri dans l'incendie.
