En el Madrid de 1936, un joven llamado Miguel Gila vive tranquilo y feliz con sus abuelos en una humilde buhardilla. Pero el estallido de la Guerra Civil obliga a Miguel, junto a su amigo Pedro, a acudir a la lucha. Allí Gila sobrevive a miserias, batallas, al fusilamiento y a la cárcel gracias a su humor. Por esta forma única de interpretar el mundo que le rodea, Gila se convertirá en uno de los cómicos más populares de España y Latinoamérica.
